David Ralph Millard invented double-eyelid surgery during the Korean War. The procedure was designed to help Korean sex workers appeal to American GIs, ironically, it has since become one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries to this day. I happen to be one of the many Asian women who underwent the procedure.
